My name is Paul von Wildenrath and I am the founder and CEO of Vanquish Trikes, based in Mossel Bay.

Owning and riding a Vanquish Trike is the MOST FUN you’re going to have with your clothes on! And, instead of having a car, SUV or bakkie to go to work, to the shops or to the gym every weekday, and a motorbike or quad bike for weekend fun, a single Vanquish trike will easily do the job of both these vehicles. With a Vanquish Trike you will have no double purchase cost, no double repair and maintenance cost, no double repayment interest, no double license fees, no double fuel cost and no double insurance cost.

Vanquish Trikes is the first company in South Africa’s HISTORY to open a factory for the commercial design and manufacture of standard trikes, reverse trikes, bike-engined trikes, car-engined trikes, trikes with handlebars and trikes with steering wheels, open trikes, covered trikes, bike-to-trike conversions, front and mid-engined trikes and soon, our latest innovation, exo cars. (And we have a new and exciting line of 4-wheelers to add later on)!

Our 4-wheeled exo cars, aka pipe cars, have as many features, benefits, varieties and innovations as our 3-wheeled masterpieces. They also have front or mid-engined configurations, they have open or closed cabins, they can be 1-, 2- or 4-seaters, side-by-side or tandem, with handlebars or steering wheels, with bike or car engines, and much more.

In 2024 Exo Cars will be a new addition to our exciting and good-looking range of motorised trikes.
"Exo" is short for "exoskeleton." We have borrowed from nature, where many creatures have exoskeletons, like shrimp, prawns, crayfish, crickets and locusts, to name a few.
Exo cars feature an extremely stripped-down chassis, with few or no body panels, while only utilizing the necessary components. This reduces weight, increases acceleration, improves performance and reduces fuel consumption by up to 80%, when compared to an entry-level car! You get all this without even having to modify your standard engine!

One question a builder often asks themselves is: "Does this part make the car move?"
If it doesn't, you can be sure it'll get removed in order to save weight. That's what we have done.

The exo cars will bring an on/off-road element to the vehicles we will be building and marketing, and the bakkie versions, which we know already will be extremely popular, are a fun addition that everyone loves, both locally and internationally.
Our vehicles are beautiful, functional and sexy alternatives to the boring, run-of-the-mill cars you see on our roads today.
And our prices are very competitive!

So, for the same price or less than a small to mid-range car, bakkie or SUV you can now choose your own, custom-designed trike or exo car with better performance, better fuel consumption, a far better resale value, and stunning, head-turning good looks over a mundane, conventional vehicle with (relatively) high fuel consumption that no-one looks twice at!

Another big advantage of owning a Vanquish trike or exo car is that neither of these types of vehicles feature in motor dealers’ handbooks. This means that no-one can tell you how much you should expect to get as a trade-in or what you have to sell it at.
Buying or selling used Vanquish trikes and exo cars is a willing-buyer / willing-seller scenario.
You might even get back what you paid for it after driving it around for 5-10 years or more!

The primary consideration is their lightness, because all body panels and superfluous parts have been stripped away, thereby increasing acceleration and performance without having to modify the standard engines at all, and resulting in fuel savings of up to 80% when compared to their donor vehicles.

At Vanquish Trikes we are very specific about the brands and types of donor bikes we choose to work on.
We convert only Japanese, German, American and British bikes and superbikes into trikes, and we use only the best engines and components of major brands in our car-engined trikes and pipe cars.

Every motorbike wants to be a Vanquish Trike when it grows up!

We have recently included a range of entry-level trikes using 350cc – 700cc motorbike engines for economy and performance. Soon, all Vanquish trikes will come with: a) shaft drive; b) tilt suspension; and c) reverse gear as standard equipment!
We also offer a clickshifter and other essential items for disabled riders.
These "entry-level" or "commuter" trikes are for people wanting a safe, stable and economical daily commuter and for youngsters who want a bike, but their folks won’t let them have one. Their advantage is that they will probably be the first amongst their friends to get one, giving them huge street cred, and their trike will be a lot safer to ride than a bike, so both the youngster and their folks will be happy!

Vanquish trikes can also be used as delivery scooters, courtesy vehicles for hotels and lodges, tourism vehicles, beach buggies and more. The possibilities are endless!

Our mid-range trikes have from 750cc bike engines up to 1200cc engines.
Our high-end trikes have from 1200cc motorbike engines, up to the 2.3 litre Triumph Rocket 3’s.
In these ranges we include our car-engined conventional and reverse trikes with 4-cylinder car engines from 1400cc up to 2500cc, plus V6’s and V8’s.

Most of our donor bikes are water-cooled and all our trikes are now shaft-driven, for better performance and less maintenance.

Bikes we like working on include the Yamaha 1200 Vmax, Gold Wing 1100’s and 1500’s, Suzuki Boulevards, the Yamaha V-Star, the Honda VTX 1300 and 1800 and the VTX 1300 Fury, a gorgeous machine, and Harleys.
Tourers we like to convert are the Yamaha FJR1300, Yamaha 1200 Vmax (Sports tourer), Suzuki Boulevards and Intruders, Kawasaki Vulcans, BMW R1200RT, Triumph Trophy 1200 and Triumph Rocket 3.
These are the best bikes in their class.

These bikes are beautiful, rugged, sexy and imposing. They are comfortable and have awesome power, enough to get you out of the closest of shaves, and yet they can be quite docile if you want them to be. They have been in production for many years and some have developed a cult following.
There are plenty of parts available, and many workshops and mechanics around the country to maintain your trike for you.

When we have finished beautifying them, you will see the quality in our work and our attention to detail.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we don’t use bolt-on kits to create trikes, and neither do we built trikes with “training wheels”, where the original back wheel is still in place.
Our trikes are true 3-wheelers!
Every part of the trike frame and rear suspension is hand-made and coupled with parts from quality motor vehicles.
We have real craftsmen doing mechanics, electrical, welding, painting and fiberglass work.
We are also proud of the fact that we refurbish second-hand bikes and car parts like new and turn them into gorgeous Vanquish Trikes.
We are big on recycling and saving money - yours.

The bikes we convert are in excellent condition (we refurbish them when necessary) and have low mileage.
They were bought at a time when the Rand was a lot stronger than it is today. So, we save you a fortune in import duties and new-bike costs. When you buy a modern bike, you are paying an exchange rate based on the weakest Rand in history.
And it’s getting worse.
That’s why they are so expensive. Check out motorbike prices on Gumtree and Junkmail. Start with the highest-priced bikes. They are well over R250,000, even second-hand.
We remove a great deal of that cost to you by building locally.

Our price of R195,000 – R250,000 for a mid-range trike is the same as it was in 2008 and you get a lot more value in a Vanquish 3-wheeler than you get with a standard 2-wheeler (or even 4-wheeler) at the same or higher price.

We now have a range of entry-level trikes with bike and car drive trains for youngsters, beginners and those who want an economical daily runabout. Prices start at around R165,000 and go up to about R190,000, depending on the extras you want included.

We will start producing trikes with car drive trains and some exciting new design ideas in 2024, incorporating conventional and reverse trike formats. All our trikes will soon come with reverse gear and tilt suspension as standard equipment for a more "bike like" cornering experience and for reversing up inclines easily!

Donovan Fourie also wrote a very complimentary article about our Vmax trike, which he rode, as did Russell Bennett of “Cars in Action” magazine, and Mike Winfield, when he was the Motoring Editor for Independent Newspapers. That article appeared in 5 newspapers around South Africa. An article even appeared in a Swazi newspaper!

When Paul was on Leigh Benny’s 702 Radio show, “All About Cars”, all the lights on the switchboard were lit up with callers wanting to talk to him about his trikes. Everywhere we ride our trikes, car drivers, bikers and even pedestrians want to talk to us, so there is definitely an interest and a market for them in S. Africa.
For us, Vanquish Trikes is about the passion of designing and building trikes, it’s not so much about the money. The money only enables us to earn a good living and build more trikes.

When your Vanquish Trike is completed, you will have a brand new vehicle that you will continue to ride in safety and comfort for many years to come, with an 80% less chance of falling off or being knocked off by a “cager” (someone who drives a car. They are the primary cause of injury and death amongst bikers. The second cause of injury and death amongst bikers is potholes, and you are a lot less likely to get hurt riding over a pothole on a trike than on a bike). You will have a safe, stable, powerful, comfortable, economical, FUN vehicle and it will cost you a good R80,000 – R200,000 less than a second-hand superbike!

If you want a Vanquish trike, or if you have a bike or superbike you want triked, call us and let’s discuss it. Our price for a conversion starts at R135,000 if you provide the donor bike. (We currently don’t charge VAT. That’s a 15% saving for you right there, so get your order in before this changes).

Whether we provide the donor bike or you do, our terms are 70% deposit with order, 15% when we have a rolling chassis and 15% on completion. We are negotiating with insurance companies to offer insurance on our vehicles.
We will soon be doing our own in-house financing!
Our current build time is about 2 weeks, but soon we will be producing 1-3 trikes every month - per workstation!
When we hit our peak we will be producing up to 200 trikes a month. Your vehicle will be ready for collection or delivery once the final payment has been made.
You will be taught how to ride your new trike before you take delivery of it, because riding a trike is very different from riding a bike, and we want to make sure you are aware of its characteristics and idiosyncrasies.

The same applies to our exo cars. These are a new addition to our range, and they fill an important gap that we identified in the automotive market. With the price of petrol now above R24/liter and getting more and more expensive every month, we want to produce cars for people who want to get out of their heavy, thirsty cars but who are too afraid to ride a 2-wheeler or even a 3-wheeler.
The logical choice is a 4-wheeled car with a sturdy and robust frame and chassis, but without the extra weight of heavy body panels. In other words, an exo car. They are less than half the weight of a normal car, and they're just as safe!
These cars will mainly be 1- or 2-seaters and some will be 4-seaters. They will have from 1400cc – 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engines, going up to V6’s and V8’s. Some will have body panels here and there for added aesthetics; most won’t have any.
